MY BIKE ACCIDENT
This is what happens when you get hit by a car at 80km/h while on a mountain bike.
I spent 4 months in hospital, 4 major operations, 3 hospitals (Campbelltown, Liverpool, Westmead). Transfers by Careflight Rescue Helicopter.
I broke my pelvis in 4 places, dislocated my left shoulder, broke my collar bone, tore my urethra (bladder) and had massive internal injury's (the blood supply to my legs bled into my stomach).
I died twice but doctors brought me back (yes, there is a white light), 32 blood transfusions and my weight dropped to 4 stone ( 25.3 kg ).
This photo was taken about 3.5 months later in late 1989.
I was very lucky I survived but still managed to smile for the camera.
Photo was taken by my cousin Tracy Dunbar at Liverpool Hospital NSW.
